One step forward and two steps back

Today I received a call from Dr. Romfh the adult congenital heart disease cardiologist from Stanford. She received the results from my heart monitor and they were not good. I have a severe case of heart block. I never realized all the multiple quick one second black outs and dizzy spells I've been having were significant. She shared my options with me. They are as follows:

  • Internal pacemaker

  • Pacemaker through my vein

  • Hospitalization with an external pacemaker (only used in hospitals)

  • Move me up on the transplant list

  • Check out experimental options

The internal and vein pacemakers are very risky for me. Moving me up on the transplant helps, but it doesn't guarantee I'll get a transplant sooner.

Dr. Romfh spoke with Dr. Poku and my transplant team and is meeting with some specialists tonight and will discuss possible options including experimental ones. She will contact me to tomorrow and we will discuss my options or plan.

In the meantime, she said I need to be with someone at all times. She stated if I'm found unconscious that the person with me needs to contact emergency personal and inform them that I have heart block. That is always comforting news to hear.

On a lighter note, today is Zoe's 8th birthday. We spent most of the day at the Zoo with our adoption group. Then we came home and she decorated her very own unicorn cake. It was a total NAILED IT moment. She is proud of her work and I think she did a wonderful job.
